The Sponsor Iraqi Children Foundation applauds the many runners, dignitaries, families, and others who came to Burke Lake Park on a beautiful Saturday morning May 4, 2013, to participate in a 5K fun run/walk to raise support for Iraqi orphans and street children.

“It was great to see the outpouring of love and compassion for these extremely vulnerable Iraqi children,” said Jonathan Webb, SICF Chairman and Iraq war veteran. “These kids may be voiceless but they have not been forgotten.”

Participants included former Iraq Ambassador to the US and SICF Advisor Samir Sumaida’ie and May Yang Sumaida’ie (SICF Vice President-US) as well as US Ambassador Richard Schmierer. Also participating were individuals who had served in Iraq with the US military or embassy, Gold Star Mothers who sons died in Ramadi and Tikrit, Iraq, distinguished members of the Iraqi-American community, families with children, and students and scouts from local schools.

The generous 5K sponsorship of Khudairi Group, Triple Canopy, Olive Group, DynCorp International, BH Defense, and other business champions ensures that a special safe haven in Iraq for orphans and street children can keep its doors open and give these children healthy food, tutoring, arts and recreation, and loving emotional care after years of violence and hardship.
